1. The Team
What does being part of the GB team mean to you?
It’s the biggest honor I could have. I love handball and to represent my country fills me with immense pride.
It’s a great honour and pleasure to be part of GB. It is like a dream come true and I never thought I would be able to be part of something so huge as a home Olympics. The opportunity to play handball abroad is massive never mind what the outcome will be when we get the opportunity for a British Handball team to compete in the Olympics. Most of all I am incredibly proud of being part of a great sporting achievement for British Handball, my team mates and Team GB.
2. Sacrifices
What sacrifices have you made to be part of this?
I chose not to go to University and moved away to Denmark at 18, I have also gone into some debt, but I would do everything to remain a part of GB.
My husband lives in Scotland in our house while I am living else where in the world (currently Denmark but it has also been Italy and Norway) we got married but were unable to have a honeymoon due to training and of course we will wait to start a family until after the London Olympics in 2012. He solely finances our house/bills and me. I have put on hold my career in the Health and Fitness industry but I know that what I am doing now will benefit my development for the future.
3. The Dream
What are the realistic hopes for London 2012? What is the dream?
Realistic hopes and our goal is to have a top 8 finish, the dream is of course to stand on the podium! But striving to achieve realistic goals is what makes you successful, so that's what we are doing.
If we continue to develop with the support and aid we have now then we are on track for a top 8 finish. This is a realistic goal for us and of course winning extra games are on our agenda and will be a massive bonus. The dream would definitely to get a medal, its ok to dream and set your sights high then we will work harder to achieve!
4. Pride
What has been your proudest moment to date?
When I walked out against Greece in July 09 as GB Captain for the first time. I was chosen by the players to be their Captain so it meant even more to me.
To date it would definitely be the home match in Glasgow against Austria. Not only was it a real home game for me and a great opportunity for my family, friends and the very important people that support me and the team to see how we have developed. It was also one of the best results a British Handball team has had on the international stage so far, and I was part of it! Austria finished 10th at the last World Championships and we were able to keep a 6 goal deficit. With a team of masses of experience from all over Europe we fought very well and played our best game to date.
5. Handball
Could you describe Handball to someone in 5 words?
Fast, Dynamic, Fun, Exciting, Different
Fast, Dynamic, Competitive, Explosive, Exciting
6. Key Skills
What are the key skills a GB CPT must possess?
You have to be a leader on and off court, and to lead by example. But also you have to know when to lead and when to ask for help and support, that’s the balance we have in our team, which makes my job much easier. Also having passion, determination and belief in yourself and the team, helps massively.
To be able to lead by example. It is the easiest way to motivate a team mate(s) during match time and off the court. It is also important to be true to yourself, your teammates and coaches so that you can earn the respect you deserve.
7. Social Media
Do you use social media to communicate with fans?
Not currently. But I am soon to be "tweeting", so hopefully that will make it easier for people to follow my journey.
Yes, it’s the easiest way to keep in contact and for people to keep in the loop of what’s happening with you.
